This Life-Size Toyota Camry Was Made With Half A Million Lego Bricks

Toyota will present a life-size Camry made from more than 500,000 Lego bricks in Melbourne, Australia, tomorrow.

It was designed by Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught, a Lego certified professional, the only one in the southern hemisphere and one of 14 worldwide.

The Lego-made Camry took over 900 hours to assemble over the course of 8 weeks. This is more than 40 times longer than the automaker needs to assemble a single example of the car, which includes everything from welding to painting and final inspection.

Weighing approximately 2 tons (4,409lbs), or some 0.4 tons (882lbs) more than the actual car, the life-size Lego car features a lot of interesting gizmos, likes working headlights, indicators and brake lights, hybrid lettering and Toyota logos on the alloy wheels.

“We’re so excited to introduce the all-new Toyota Camry in a fun and interactive environment to Melbournians”, commented the brand’s Australia chief designer, Nicolas Hogios. “It’s amazing to see how quickly the car was put together in such a streamlined approach – much like our own design process locally in Australia.”

Those interested in the gigantic brick-made toy can check it out at the Melbourne Museum Plaza, at the Brickman Awesome exhibition, which takes place from March 21 to April 29.

This isn’t the only 1:1 Lego-made replica of a car, as the Danish company previously collaborated with Ford to create a Mustang and there’s also a McLaren 720S built from 280,000 small bricks.

Enthusiasts can check out the Lego Speed Champions offerings and the Technic range, which features models such as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and, later this year, the Bugatti Chiron.
