The second-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA is in the midst of development and will essentially be a high-riding version of the all-new A-Class.
Recently filmed on the roads with a heavy dose of camouflage, the similarities between the new GLA and the A-Class are immediately apparent. For example, the front end looks pretty much identical to the GLA’s hatchback sibling with the same headlights and likely near-identical front grille and air intakes.
While the camouflage of this prototype covers most of the rear, triangular-shaped taillights are visible (just). The only obvious elements that distinguish the GLA from the A-Class are the flared wheel arches, increased ride height and larger wheels and tires.
Inside, the commonalities between the pair will continue. This means the same MBUX infotainment system from the A-Class will be available on the GLA in a host of different configurations, including one with two sleek touchscreen displays.
Want more space from your compact Merc? Check out the upcoming GLB
Like the current GLA, the new model will be a five-seater. Those looking for a compact SUV with room for seven won’t leave Mercedes dealerships empty-handed for much longer. Why? Because development is ongoing of yet another SUV, known as the GLB and rumored to essentially be a smaller version of the G-Class.
The latest-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA should launch in 2019.
