It may not be the most exciting version of the car, as it’s not as hardcore as the limited edition GTS, but the BMW M4 CS is still hotter than the regular Coupe.

Introduced a year ago, it features several lightweight components that help it shed 32 kg (71 lbs) compared to the M4 Coupe. It also gets better brakes, stiffer springs and dampers, larger roll bars and 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels.

All of these upgrades were necessary to help the car cope with the extra power. Compared to the M4 Coupe, which churns out 431 PS and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque, the CS’ output stands at 460PS (454hp) and 600Nm (443lb-ft). This results in a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration of just 3.9 seconds, or 0.3 seconds faster than the M4 Competition Package, while top speed is electronically capped at 278 km/h (174 mph).

BMW claims that with the clever engineering that went into the M4 CS, it is just as quick as the Porsche 991 Carrera S around the Nurburgring.

Now that we covered the basics of the car, it’s time to check it out in action from the driver’s seat. The video posted below is 3 minutes and 11 seconds long, and for the most part, shows the premium compact coupe being driven hard on public roads and sliding out that rear end from time to time.

There’s no small talk or music to cover the sound of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, so you can enjoy the CS at full throttle on an empty back road without anything to disturb you.
