The muscle car as we know it might be going the way of the Dodo sooner rather than later. Before it goes out though, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 might just be the best of all time. That’s made us wonder though, which muscle car is the worst of all time?
There’s going to be a debate about what actually constitutes a muscle car but we’ll come back to that a little later. For now, let’s focus on some cars that rest quite comfortably in the muscle car segment despite some disappointing features.
One such vehicle available for your consideration is the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am. If walking loudly and carrying a small stick was a thing, it might be embodied by this car. That huge reputation and poor ability to back it up on the actual street or track makes it one of the worst in my book.
Despite its flashy screaming chicken hood emblem, its aggressive bodywork, and its cool-looking T-Tops, it’s not actually all that fast. The 6.6-liter V8 under the hood is good for a factory-rated 200 hp (149 kW). That’s a whole lot of displacement for not a lot of power. For example, the modern-day Toyota GR Corolla keeps 100 extra ponies under the hood despite displacing just 1.6 liters and 3-cylinders. Yikes.

It is far and away not the only disappointing muscle car and it’s not even the only one from the same decade. The Pontiac Volare Road Runner, the Dodge Aspen R/T, and the Ventura GTO all ended up being less than epic.
The Ford Mustang II King Cobra also wrote a check with its name and livery that its drivetrain couldn’t cash. The 1980s weren’t much better but bad muscle cars can be found in just about every single decade since the muscle car was invented.
To be clear, we’re not going to place any rules on exactly how one defines a muscle car other than to say that there’s a clear argument for it. As an example, while I personally don’t think the last generations of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo are ‘muscle cars’, it’s easy to see why someone might argue that they are. So with that, start your engines and let us know, what’s the worst muscle car of all time. Be sure to vote for your favorites!
