The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS isn’t just an amazing car to look at but it is also said to be absolutely monumental to drive, delivering cornering speeds once only achievable by a GT3 racing car.

This video doesn’t focus on the car’s cornering abilities, however. Instead, it shows what the ultimate version of the 992-generation 911 is like to launch off the line while also allowing us to hear the engine in all its glory.

Driving the new 911 GT3 RS is a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six that shares many of its components with the engine of the standard GT3. However, it does feature new cams, bespoke cylinder heads, and a new intake system. It is good for 518 hp and is coupled exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends all the power through the rear wheels.

While testing the car, France’s Motorsport Magazine was able to push it through to 163 mph (263 km/h) without the Porsche even skipping a beat. Interestingly, the car tops out at 184 mph (296 km/h) which is actually 14 mph (22 km/h) slower than the GT3. This is because of how much drag its new aerodynamic elements generate.

Indeed, the crazy wings, splitters, and other aerodynamic add-ons of the 911 GT3 RS combine to produce 1,896 lbs (860 kg) of downforce at 177 mph (285 km/h). This downforce makes the car an absolute animal on a track, so much so that it is the record holder for a naturally-aspirated production car around the Nurburgring Nordschleife, setting a blistering time of 6:49.328 last year.
