Update: We’re at the New York Auto Show where Genesis displayed their coupe-crossover concept and took a few photos of it, which you can check out in the gallery below. Genesis also confirmed what we already knew after having spotted several prototype testers that a production model will follow within the next year, possibly as a 2025MY.

What you’re looking at is the Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept, unveiled at an event in New York City and previewing a production model that we’ve spied testing on multiple occasions in recent months.

Launched at Genesis House New York, the GV80 Coupe Concept is a four-seater crossover that takes design inspiration from last year’s X Speedium Coupe Concept. As such, it brings together styling elements of the existing GV80 with those from the more dynamic X Speedium. The Korean automaker says “it is a statement of intent for more emotional, performance-oriented models and a preview of Genesis’ future programs.”

The front fascia of the GV80 Coupe Concept stands out from the existing GV80 with slimmer LED headlights with new multi-lens array technology. Additionally, the front end rocks more aggressive air intakes with black shrouds while from the side, the overhauled roof line catches the eye. The concept is also rocking horizontal LED lights on the front quarter panels and sits significantly lower than the GV80 we’re familiar with.

It’s hard to deny that the pièce de résistance of the concept’s design is the rear end. It features full-width LED lights just like the X Speedium Concept, has a trunk-mounted lip spoiler, and a subtle spoiler stretching out from the roof. The bright shade of orange, dubbed Magma, is also a bold inclusion.

Genesis has also made some significant changes to the GV80’s interior to make the Coupe Concept. For example, there is a revised three-spoke steering wheel and surfaces that are now clad in black Nappa and suede leather with orange piping and carbon fiber accents. The SUV has also morphed into a four-seater and sports four bucket seats with painted carbon fiber backrests finished in the same shade of orange as the exterior. A large strut bar has also been fitted behind the second-row bucket seats.

“At its inception, the Genesis brand began creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80, and G90 models,” Genesis Group chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke said at the concept’s debut. “Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that elevate Genesis’ performance and dynamic attributes. [The GV80 Coupe Concept] emphasizes the duality of the Genesis brand by showcasing the antagonistic character that lives within the Athletic and Elegance parameters of Genesis’ design philosophy.”

We’ll likely get a closer look at the GV80 Concept that previews a production model slated for release within the next year at this week’s New York Auto Show.
