For the first time ever, Disney has opened its Imagineering department to an automaker, and it has come up with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept. The all-electric car features a number of nods to some of the most iconic Disney characters and takes advantage of Hyundai’s creative lighting technology.
“At Hyundai, we are always looking for new ways to connect with customers on every mile of their journey, and the magic that Disney creates inspires us to deliver moments of delight for our customers,” said Angela Zepeda, chief marketing officer, Hyundai Motor America. “This is the first time that Disney has opened the doors to their design studio and granted access to Disney’s iconic characters for an artistic collaboration with an automaker.”
The concept, presented at the New York Auto Show, celebrates Disney’s 100th anniversary and features a three-circle wheel design that evokes the company’s best-known character, Mickey Mouse’s ears. Meanwhile, the body is painted a rather fetching shade of Gravity Gold Matte.

The exterior’s real trick is the special light show. Taking advantage of the Ioniq 5‘s front lighting display, the car shows a Disney sparkle animation, in which a pixie dances across the front fascia before becoming fireworks in the middle.
Elsewhere, the car is equipped with Disney100 badges on the exterior, the Disney100 logo is embossed on the front seat headrests and the carpets. The moon roof etching details also contain a touch of pixie dust, and the interior screens are Disney-themed. That means that, upon entering the car, the driver is greeted by Disney music, and the screen shows the sparkle animation, too.
Part of a wider advertising kick with the beloved media corporation, the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept follows a series of ads that debuted at the Oscars. They feature the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Tucson, as well as a number of road trip scenes from Disney movies.
Although the concept will become a limited edition car that goes on sale, details on the production version have not yet been shared, and the features listed above are specific to the show car, so some might not make it into production.
Further details on the production version of the Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept will be shared at a later date.
