The YangWang U9 made a surprise digital debut last January, as the supercar sibling of the U8 off-roader. BYD announced that the public premiere of the new electric supercar will take place at Auto Shanghai on April 18, while showing a slightly updated version in the latest teasers.
In the latest renderings, the U9 is finished in a silverish color, infused with light blue and purple hues. More importantly, the supercar sports a revised aero agenda with more prominent elements. It remains to be seen if those features are highlights of a potential performance-focused derivative or just styling updates to the regular U9 as part of its development.

At the front, which gives us McLaren Artura vibes, there are a couple of new features, including a redesigned splitter and slightly different LED graphics for the controversial headlights. However, the highlight is the massive GT3-style rear wing, which is connected to the central fin and the vented rear windscreen, reminiscent of a few Lamborghini models. The full-width taillight cluster also got new LED graphics, while the reflectors have been relocated lower in the large diffuser.
BYD’s Yangwang U9 will be equipped with the “Yisifang” system comprising quad electric motors. We don’t know the exact power output of the U9, but the U8 off-roader makes over 1,100 hp (820 kW / 1,115 PS). Still, the company promises it will accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2 seconds, featuring sophisticated torque vectoring abilities. If this is confirmed, it will be 0.1 seconds slower than the Aion Hyper SSR coming from the rival Chinese group GAC.
We expect YangWang to reveal all of the specifications of the U9 in Shanghai next week, alongside its pricing, ahead of the upcoming market launch in China.
