You know it, I know it, and everyone else knows it. There are cars that we secretly love but publicly decry. The court of public opinion can be pretty harsh on cars, trucks, and SUVs that for whatever reason, our hearts are drawn to. You’re in a safe space today though and it’s time to confess. What’s the car you hate to admit that you secretly love?
We’ll open this one wide up too beyond simple everyday stock vehicles. That means that you can pick the wild donk that you see in your downtown area every once in a while or the blinged-out Polaris Slingshot that terrorizes your neighborhood. Factory-spec cars are fine too of course.
I’ll let you in on three of mine to get things started. First and foremost, the Tesla Cybertruck. I get it… it doesn’t actually exist in a production fashion, but dang it if it doesn’t break a lot of old fuddy-duddy rules in the car business and I love that. Take away all of the understandable angst towards the brand and its CEO and I think the vehicle itself is rulebreaking enough that it’s very cool.

Secondly, Mercedes Benz and its AMG G63 4×4 Squared. It’s completely ridiculous in just about every way imaginable. It’s way too expensive, it’s way more powerful than it needs to be, and probably less than 1 percent of the 1 percenters that buy it will ever use it off-road properly. It’s a dumb show of excess that I just want to take to Moab.
Finally, and perhaps most controversially, I love a good lowered pickup truck (or SUV) with a big powerful engine and proper modifications that make it handle better on the road. Lots of data suggest that the vast majority of truck drivers don’t use their pickups as much more than an everyday commuter vehicle. Considering that, it seems both safer and cooler to improve them so they can do that job better.
