Great Wall Motors tried to steal some of the Tesla Cybertruck‘s glory with the “CyberP!ckup” that debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show. This six-wheel-drive pickup is the Chinese take on a conquering all-terrain vehicle with an electrified powertrain, and is reportedly heading to production.

The model is built by the GWM’s Co-Creation division in collaboration with Chaojing Motors, and it’s based on the Shanhai Cannon pickup truck. The most obvious modification is the addition of a third axle, featuring a total of six 18-inch wheels shod in 33-inch Cooper Discoverer all-terrain tires and a heavy-duty suspension with nitrogen shock absorbers. According to the automaker, this is China’s first 6×6 model, making it a belated answer to the army of modified six-wheelers coming from the US.

The CyberP!ckup is powered by a plug-in-hybrid twin-turbo 3.0-liter engine producing 510 hp (380 kW / 517 PS) and 750 Nm (553 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to all six wheels with five locking differentials. While a heavyweight six-wheeler is not the most efficient form of transportation, the electrified powertrain will also allow at least some zero-emission driving range – even though it will be greatly reduced compared to the regular four-wheeler version.

Besides the number of wheels, the model has received plenty of visual modifications, including wide fender extensions, front and rear bumpers with large intakes and LEDs similar in style to the Tank brand, a custom grille with an illuminated stripe, a carbon fiber hood, side steps, and a stretched rear bed with a split tailgate. The interior retains its dual-cab five-seater configuration, with light-colored upholstery, a digital cockpit, and special touches with CyberP!ckup lettering.

While the Great Wall Cannon CyberP!ckup certainly looks like a one-off concept designed to impress, Australian media CarExpert reports it is heading to production, coming in both 4×4 and 6×6 versions with a towing capability rating between 3.5-6 tonnes (7,716-13,227 lbs). We certainly live in weird times.
