Unveiled at an event in Amsterdam, the Lynk & Co 02 will take its place alongside the larger 01 SUV and the 03 saloon within the Chinese automaker’s portfolio.
Among its most important features are the electrified power train, the compact design, two-tone color schemes and muscular wheel arches, which give the 02 a sporty, confident stance.
According to Lynk & Co, the 02 will be produced in Europe for Europe, aimed at youthful buyers with active lifestyles.
“Sporty, adventurous, dynamic, daring, confident and fun, the 02 sits at the absolute center of our brand,” stated the company’s design chief, Andreas Nilsson.
“A shorter wheelbase, lower ride height and center of gravity – combined with two-tone color schemes and softer, voluptuous surfaces, muscular haunches and wheel-arches – give 02 a solid and confident stance while being agile and sporty in character. Immediately identifiable as a member of the Lynk & Co family, it is also unique on the inside and out. 02 is a really remarkable looker in our line-up.”
The brand’s first European store will open its doors in Amsterdam, followed by other locations in Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels and London, all situated in central fashion districts and described as “easy-to-navigate, sociable and fun brand boutiques.”
Unlike other automakers, Lynk & Co will stay away from traditional concepts such as base models, entry points and long options lists, instead focusing on fully equipped, one price “collections”, inspired by the fashion industry.
Lynk & Co buyers will also enjoy a wide range of connected technologies, from the sharing function (the world’s first in-car share button), to wireless charging and a dedicated app store. Like the brand’s other models, the 02 features a large central touchscreen display and advanced telematics systems, connected to the Internet at all times as well as to the car’s own cloud.
While specs for the 02 weren’t disclosed, we expected it to boast the same three-cylinder hybrid unit from the Volvo XC40, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In the future, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains will follow.
According to reports, the Lynk & Co 02 measures 4,448 mm (175.1 in) in length, 1,890 mm (74.4 in) in width and stands 1,528 mm (60.1 in) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,702 mm (106.3 in). These numbers would make it ever so slightly longer, wider, yet considerably less tall than the Volvo XC40.
