No, your eyes are not deceiving you, this is not an odd-looking 1969 Chevelle SS. Instead, it is actually a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 that has been transformed by Vision Retro Designs into a vehicle that brings together retro looks with modern-day power and technology.

Offered for sale at Mecum Auctions’ Indy event next month, the listing says it was the first 2015 Camaro that Vision Retro Designs modified to look like a classic Chevelle. While no pre-auction estimate has been released regarding its value, it could fetch a very handsome sum.

The builder has replaced all of the Camaro’s original body panels with new parts made from lightweight carbon fiber and finished in Strato Blue Metallic that suits the car absolutely perfectly. Compared to an original 1969 Chevelle SS, the car’s proportions are a little different but that’s to be expected given its modern underpinnings. While we suspect many won’t be fond of its design, we really don’t mind it. The Schott Performance Accelerator wheels, measuring 20×10 at the front and 20×11 at the rear while wrapped in 285/30 and 305/35 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, look particularly nice.

Vintage Retro Designs has also altered the interior of the Camaro donor car but to a lesser extent than the exterior. It is now rocking new black Nappa leather upholstery with white accents and bespoke headrests. A handful of carbon fiber inserts have also been installed on the dashboard and steering wheel.

No upgrades have been made to the all-aluminum 6.2-liter supercharged V8, meaning it continues to spit out 580 hp and 556 lb-ft (750 Nm) of twist at 4,200 rpm. This engine works alongside a 6-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. Adding to the visual appeal of the engine bay is a carbon fiber strut bar.
