Tesla is working on facelifts for both the Model 3 (Project Highlander) and Model Y (Project Juniper), which will reportedly enter production in the fall of 2023 and 2024 respectively. A revealing spy shot of what appears to be the 2024 Tesla Model 3, inspired independent designer Sugar Chow to create a rendering for the mechanically-related 2025 Tesla Model Y, providing an speculative preview of its exterior design.

The computer-generated image depicts a redesigned front end for the Model Y, resulting in a significant departure from the current model, despite retaining the same profile and proportions. The updated design also aligns more closely with the styling language of the larger and more established Model S and Model X.

2025 Tesla Model Y Rendered Based On The Facelifted Model 3

The rendered image showcases several potential design changes for the Model Y, including slimmer LED headlights reminiscent of its sedan sibling, and a simplified front bumper with a more elongated central intake, potentially eliminating the side inlets and DRLs. The updated design also aims to provide a cleaner aesthetic by eliminating the “duck face” of the current model. Additionally, the Model Y is expected to feature revised fenders, new wheels, and minor updates to the rear, coupled with technological upgrades in the cabin.

The designer who goes under the name @Sugardesign_1 on Instagram, recently published a similar rendering of the upcoming Model 3 which appears to be quite accurate based on a recent spy shot.

Tesla aims to reduce production costs for the Model 3 and Model Y with the upcoming facelifts, allowing the company to maximize profits. The updates are also intended to enhance the vehicles’ appeal to buyers amid increased competition from a slew of new offerings in recent years. Notably, in China, local automakers are vying with Tesla by offering high build quality, stylish designs, and advanced technology at competitive prices.

What are your thoughts on the rendering of the 2025 Tesla Model Y? In our opinion, the proposed updates offer an improvement over the current model, but as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
