The current-generation Kia Carnival is an excellent minivan, ticking most of the boxes of buyers in this segment. For as well-rounded as it is off the factory floor, a company by the name of UniCamp has made it even more versatile by developing a custom-made pop-top bed for it.
Officially known as the Univan RT CL, the converted Carnival is being promoted as “the perfect MPV camper for those who want to explore the great outdoors in style and comfort.” While the only available add-on is the pop top bed, the company is developing a second bedding option and a modular outdoor kitchen for the Kia.
The roof tent is made from reinforced thermosetting plastic and when closed, looks very sleek, particularly when painted in the same color as the rest of the MPV. Once opened, the tent reveals a compact sleeping area for two people that includes two mesh windows on either side that can be opened. It suits the Carnival particularly well as the MPV’s sunroof doubles as the perfect entry hatch into the tent.

The company notes that the tent can open or close in just 5 seconds and also includes a self-locking function.
For as cool as it would be to go on a long road trip in the Kia Carnival with a roof tent like this, adding a two-person bed like this to the minivan comes with a hefty price. In fact, it costs $16,000. That’s roughly half the price of a brand new 2023 Kia Carnival for a tent with a hard shell.
UniCamp has not yet revealed when it will launch the low sleeping area conversion for the Carnival nor when its kitchen option will be released but given the price of the roof top tent, we don’t think either of them will be cheap.
