At first, BMW‘s M6 Gran Coupe might not strike you as a true driver’s car. After all, it’s a four-door variant of a two-door car that was originally meant to be a two-door version of a four-door. Yep, it sounds confusing, but such is the case with the so-called four-door coupes as no one seems to like sedans these days.

On the other hand, we have to admit that it does look better than the M5 and is still capable of transporting four adults and their luggage extremely fast.

TheSmokingTire got behind the wheel of a M6 Gran Coupe and had nothing but good things to say about it. And that’s surprising, as Matt Farah isn’t really driving the vehicle in its intended environment.

While the M6 Gran Coupe has an M badge, its elongated body and heavier figure makes it more of a grand tourer. It’s aimed towards drivers looking to cover large amounts of ground in style and at neck-breaking speeds. But as Farah found out, the M6 Gran Coupe is more than capable of going around corners.

This thing is fast, really fast

Thanks to the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 550 horsepower,it is blisteringly quick. While BMW quotes a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time of 4.1 seconds, Farah claims the sedan feels just as fast as the coupe, which can keep up with a Ferrari 458 from a highway roll.

The car’s so fast, that he goes on to claim that it has enough grunt to take on the previous generation of supercars; for one, he says, the naturally-aspirated Lamborghini Gallardo might have trouble outrunning the Bimmer in a straight line – and that says a lot.

In contrast to high-strung supercars, though, the M6 Gran Couope is very easy to live with. Besides being hard to park, Farah states that it’s easy to drive, comfortable, and has ample space for four adults.

The M6 Gran Coupe may have been a tough sell when it first came out, but brave buyers can find one for around $60,000, which makes it a lot of car for the money.
