What you’re looking at could very well be the most over-the-top Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 in existence. Dubbed the 900 Superblack, it has been brought to life by famed tuner Brabus, and isn’t just significantly quicker than the model it is based on but also looks a heck of a lot more striking.
As with any good Brabus project, the upgrades start with the engine. The standard 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged AMG V8 has grown to 4.4 liters thanks to larger cylinder bores and the fitment of enlarged forged pistons and connecting rods. The tuner has then fitted a precision-balanced billet crankshaft to lengthen the stroke.
In addition, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ sports a pair of new turbochargers with enlarged compressor units and a unique core assembly. New air intakes have also been developed for the SUV as has a new fuel system with high-pressure pumps. Brabus has also fitted a new exhaust system complete with new 76 mm downpipes while ensuring all of the mechanical upgrades work cohesively is a new electronics package.
The result of all these changes is an almighty 900 hp at 6,200 rpm and 922 lb-ft (1,250 Nm) of torque at 2,900 rpm, but the torque has been limited to 774 lb-ft (1,050 Nm) to protect the drivetrain. These gains allow the GLS 63 4Matic+ to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of up to 205 mph (330 km/h) depending on the wheels and tires selected.

The upgrades don’t stop here. Extensive work has been done to overhaul the body of the Mercedes, making it look more aggressive while also improving the aerodynamics. Key changes made include a new front splitter to lower front-axle lift, distinctive new air intakes in the front bumper, a revised grille, and carbon fiber trim on the wheel arches. Brabus has also engineered a custom control module for the SUV’s air suspension to lower the ride height by 25 mm (1 inch).
Customers who really want to make a statement can opt for a set of 24-inch wheels developed in-house and wrapped in 295/35 front and 335/30 rear tires. The disadvantage of opting for these wheels over the standard 23-inch shoes is that they reduce the top speed from 205 mph (330 km/h) to 192 mph (310 km/h).
Completing the Brabus upgrades made to the GLS are new quilted upholstery, various carbon fiber accents, aftermarket scuff plates, and a new matt Shadow Grey finish across the controls, air vents, speaker grilles, and surrounds. The paddle shifters and pedals are also made from aluminum.
