A dizzying array of incredible sports cars came out of Japan in the 1990s and while it’s difficult to say which is the best, few would argue that the FD Mazda RX-7 is one of the most iconic.

The RX-7 is beloved for many reasons, including its timeless design and of course, its potent rotary engine. For those who want a little bit of JDM culture in their life, this particular 1993 RX-7 could be the perfect addition to even the most remarkable of car collections.

This particular Mazda RX-7 is special in that it has been owned since new by the seller and while it has been modified, the upgrades look to have been made in a tasteful way, not something that can be said about many RX-7s out there. The car is currently up for auction through Bring a Trailer with a clean Carfax report and ~56,000 miles (~90,000 km) under its belt.

Adorning the exterior is Vintage Red paint as well as the original five-spoke 16-inch wheels that were refurbished in 2022 and are wrapped in 255/50 Toyo Proxes R888R tires. The seller also equipped the car with coilovers last year while also adding PowerStop drilled and slotted rotors, carbon ceramic brake pads, and stainless steel brake lines.

Continuing to power the car is a 1.3-liter rotary engine but it was rebuilt in 2022 by Roto Piston Motorsportz and ditches the original twin-turbocharged set for a single turbo. The rebuild also saw the spark plugs, injectors, rotor housings, engine studs, drive belts, idler pulleys, ECU, and throttle body sensors replaced. This engine remains coupled to the original five-speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential and an aftermarket ACT clutch.

While the interior of the Mazda RX-7 is starting to feel dated, it continues to sport the original seats trimmed in black leather with a matching dashboard, carpets, and door panels.
