Mercedes-AMG recently commenced customer deliveries of the F1-powered One and the very first example was recently handed over to Topaz Detailing in the UK to have a clear paint protection film applied.

While working on a car as rare and as valuable as the AMG One would probably scare away many other detailing shops, Topaz has years of experience in some of the world’s priciest cars, including ones that make the ultimate Mercedes seem cheap.

Topaz has a particularly advanced process it takes whenever it applies a paint protection film. Each individual piece is cut before being applied to the vehicle and it saves all of the pieces in an online database directly linked to each vehicle it works on. This means that should the AMG One in question ever need to have part of the film replaced, the detailer can cut a new piece with precisely the right dimensions.

The process of applying the film is complex and when working on a car like the AMG One, extra care is taken to ensure every piece is perfect. Not only does the film of this AMG One cover all of the bodywork but it even extends to the carbon fiber parts of the wheels.

While it took ages for the Mercedes-AMG One to morph from a concept into a production car, it has been well worth the wait. In November last year, Maro Engel set a new production car lap record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife in the car, lapping the circuit in just 6:35.183. Since achieving this feat, the car has gone on to set new lap records at the Nurburgring’s Grand Prix circuit, Austria’s Red Bull Ring, and Germany’s Hockenheimring. Most recently, the AMG One lapped the Monza circuit in 1:43.902, almost on par with a 2022 Dallara 320 open-wheeled racecar.
