Spy photographers recently snapped the facelifted Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo, but today we’re getting a look at the ultra high-performance variant.
Tentatively known as the Taycan Turbo GT, the prototype stands out as it wears a massive rear wing and a pronounced spoiler. The model also appears to sport the same front fascia as the facelifted variant and the blocky camouflage at the outside corners could be hiding canards.
There isn’t much else to see, but the prototype has Turbo-style side skirts and black wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. The latter has large drilled discs and black calipers with Porsche lettering.
Porsche has been tight-lipped about the prototype, but it’s expected to slot above the Taycan Turbo S which develops 750 hp (559 kW / 760 PS) and 774 lb-ft (1,048 Nm) of torque when using Launch Control. This enables the EV to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 2.6 seconds, before hitting a top speed of up to 161 mph (259 km/h).
Those are some tough numbers to beat, but rumors have suggested the car could be equipped with a tri-motor all-wheel drive system that produces around 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS). While that remains to be seen, it would enable the Taycan to more closely battle the Tesla Model S Plaid which has 1,020 hp (761 kW / 1,034 PS). Thanks to the insane output, the electric American can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 1.99 seconds and top out at 200 mph (322 km/h), all while having an EPA estimated range of 396 miles (637 km).
If Porsche indeed wants to throw down with the Model S Plaid, you’d better start saving as the current Taycan Turbo S starts at $194,900 before a $1,650 destination fee.
