Once you’ve already spun off the road and into a ditch, there’s very little, if anything, that can be done to salvage the situation. You’re basically at the mercy of physics, as well as the car’s safety features.
Yet, whoever was driving this old Hyundai Grandeur (also known as the XG) in Belovo, Bulgaria, made quite a few bad decisions that led to the crash itself. It started with him or her not adjusting their speed to the road conditions, culminating with what looks like losing control under braking.
Unfortunately, there was very little runoff space, which resulted in the Hyundai saloon falling into a field and rolling over four times.
We can only hope that the driver and any potential occupants weren’t seriously injured, or worse. By the looks of it, the car did take a lot of damage to its roof, which appears bent – but if seat belts were worn and the airbags deployed, there’s a good chance they could still walk away from something like this.
This is certainly one of the most unfortunate accidents we’ve seen lately. Going that fast in that type of weather while attempting to overtake wasn’t the smartest move, but obviously the Hyundai’s driver totally misjudged the situation.
