The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is an impressive sedan but a recent test has shown some curious results as the car was beat by a BMW X6 M and a Ford Focus RS.
The results are surprising as the Giulia QV is powered by a twin-turbo 2.9-liter V6 engine which produces 505 hp (376 kW) and 443 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque. Backed up by an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels, the sedan rockets from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds before topping out at 191 mph (307 km/h).
Unlike some models, the Giulia QV wasn’t designed to just be fast in a straight line. That can be clearly seen by the car’s Nürburgring lap time of 7:32 which is the fastest by a four-door production sedan.
This makes the results of this test extremely odd as the BMW X6 M has more power, thanks to a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 developing 567 hp (422 kW) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque, but it weighs significantly more at 5,185 lbs (2,351 kg). Furthermore, BMW puts the 0-60 mph time at 4.0 seconds while the top speed is limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).
Even more puzzling is the Focus RS which has all-wheel drive and a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 350 hp (261 kW) and 350 lb-ft (474 Nm) of torque. The car may be more nimble than the Giulia QV but it’s still at a significant horsepower and torque disadvantage.
Correction: a previous version of this article erroneously said the Alfa is all-wheel drive when in fact it’s rear wheel drive.
