A Ferrari F40 formerly owned by four-time Formula 1 World Champion Alain Prost is currently up grabs in Lyon, France. It is undoubtedly one of the most desirable F40s you’re ever likely to come across.
Shortly after Prost left McLaren to drive for Ferrari, he was allocated this very F40, chassis number 83249. The car was built in late 1989 and unlike many other F40s, does not have catalytic converters or adjustable suspension. Interestingly, Prost never actually used the car and sold it soon after taking delivery.
RM Sotheby’s says the car was then purchased by Graham de Zille who also owned a number of other Ferrari models at the time. When he picked up the keys, he had Prost sign the roof and the signature is still visible today.
De Zille originally owned the car in the UK and had the odometer replaced from kilometers to miles. He then brought it over to New Jersey and it was later featured in an issue of Motor Sport magazine. In 1999, the car returned to the UK where it was sold and passed through the hands of numerous owners until 2016, the same year that it was granted Ferrari Classiche certification.

The listing notes that the F40’s fuel bladders were replaced in March 2019 and that a major service was also carried out at the time time. The odometer reveals that the F40 has been driven less than 2,900 miles (~4,667 km) and is being sold with the owner’s manual, a replacement service book, a toolset, the original front spoiler, and a fitted Schedoni suitcase.
As a reminder, the Ferrari F40 is powered by a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that was good for 471 hp when the car was new. Power is sent exclusively through the rear wheels courtesy of a 5-speed manual transmission.
