Tesla has showcased a rather special Cybertruck prototype equipped with an intriguing tool rack at an event in Texas but despite interest from Tesla fans, the rack may not actually enter production.

This Cybertruck was displayed at the groundbreaking ceremony for the carmaker’s new lithium refinery outside of Corpus Christi, Texas and featured prominently in the background while chief executive Elon Musk spoke about the new site.

The industrial-looking rack appears to be made from steel and stretches up from the Cybertruck’s downward-sloping bed and is finished in black. Attached to the side of it were two Cybertruck-inspired shovels that were later removed by Musk and used for the groundbreaking ceremony. The top of the rack appears to sit in line with the roof, meaning it could double as a roof rack which is handy given that the Cybertruck has an angled roof without any horizontal surfaces, meaning a regular roof rack would be useless.

As you can imagine, many Tesla enthusiasts had their interest piqued by the roof rack but while speaking with a YouTuber by the name of Ellie in Space, Tesla’s SVP for Powertrain and Energy Engineering, Drew Baglino, said that he doesn’t know if the rack will be offered to customer. What he did say is that the carmaker is working to develop a series of accessories for the Cybertruck, acknowledging that pickup truck owners traditionally want to accessorize their vehicles.

Funnily enough, the very same Tesla Cybertruck that was present at the groundbreaking ceremony appeared to get stuck in a muddy bog shortly after the event. A series of images and a video of the Cybertruck were shared to Twitter and also showed a white Ford F-Series positioned nearby, leading to suggestions that the Ford may have been needed to rescue the Tesla.
