Honda Australia has managed to cut waiting times for the new Civic Type R by up to nine months after receiving an additional allocation of vehicles.
While the new Civic Type R has a local driveaway price of AU$72,600 ($48,600), making it approximately AU$12,000 ($8,033) more than the previous FK8-generation model, Aussie enthusiasts can’t seem to get enough of the new hot hatch. Indeed, it was confirmed in January that the car had been sold out for the first 18 months of its production run.
Fortunately for those who have placed an order or are thinking of doing so, Honda has just allocated an additional 500 units for the 2023 calendar year. This means that the latest orders placed are now scheduled to arrive in February 2024.

“I am pleased that we have been able to allocate additional stock of the all-new Civic Type R for the Australian market, and that our loyal customers will benefit from the arrival of their vehicle within a reasonable timeframe,” Honda Australia director Carolyn McMahon said.
It is not yet clear how many examples of the Civic Type R were originally scheduled to arrive in 2023 but a report from January pegged that number at around 600 units. It appears apparent that local buyers have responded well to the more refined design of the FL5-generation Civic Type R given that between just 1,200 and 1,300 examples of the FK8 model are thought to have been sold locally throughout the course of its four-year production run.
As in overseas markets, the new Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is good for 315 hp. This gives it more power than cheaper rivals like the Hyundai i30 N and VW Golf GTI and matches the 315 hp of the VW Golf R that’s priced from AU$72,837 ($48,758).
