“Fast X” has long been touted as the penultimate installment in the Fast and Furious franchise. However, following the global premiere of the film in Rome this weekend, series star and producer Vin Diesel hinted that there might actually be more Fast Saga to come.

Ahead of its premier, Universal Pictures widely advertised Fast X as the second-to-last film in the franchise, which would then end with the 11th installment. Speaking to Variety on the red carpet of the premiere, Diesel said that the series might actually be stretched out to make this the beginning of a saga-ending trilogy.

“Going into making this movie, the studio asked if this could be a two-parter,” Diesel said. “And after the studio saw this one, they said, ‘Could you make “Fast X,” the finale, a trilogy?’”

Will There Be A 12th Fast And Furious Movie? Vin Diesel And Michelle Rodriguez Weigh In

Speaking alongside Diesel, series veteran Michelle Rodriguez (Letty Ortiz) added that “it’s three acts in any three story.” Asked if they were confirming that there was a 12th Fast movie coming, Diesel said, “You’re gonna get me in trouble here.”

Universal Pictures has yet to comment on the suggestion, but the actor who plays Dominic Toretto is a producer on the film, and has played a key role in its planning, meaning that he may have more information than other cast members.

Whether it’s the second- or third-to-last installment in the franchise, Fast X opens in U.S. theaters nationwide on May 19. Variety reports that writers Christina Hodson (“Bumblebee”) and Oren Uziel (“22 Jump Street”) have already been hired to write the 11th Fast and Furious film, which follows directly from the events of Fast X. Louis Leterrier is contracted to direct both films.
