Automotive customization runs deep in the veins of many car enthusiasts. Making a car, truck, or SUV uniquely ours is a special act. And it has us wondering exactly what your go-to mod is when you pick up a new ride.
This is only the latest in a series of questions that you lot wanted to ask the Carscoops community. Today’s question came in fourth in the voting and we expect a bit of a split here. Not everyone who loves cars modifies them and for good reason.
We’ve heard countless reports now of owners modifying their rides in one way or another only to be (sometimes rightfully) denied warranty coverage. That deprives me of my favorite go-to mod, an ECU tune. Modern tuning components often plug and play and require few to no supporting modifications. Perhaps it’s a good thing then that none of my cars had an existing warranty when I bought them anyway.

There are a lot of other excellent options out there though. When I was a teenager the hot mod for anyone with any sort of two-door sports car was a cone intake filter. Other than simply looking cool they do produce a unique sound. Whether or not they actually produce any more power is way up in the air for debate though.
Maybe the right answer is some sort of power-adding device like a turbocharger, a supercharger, or nitrous. Those are all fun but also void just about every warranty out there. We have a dark horse pick but it might not totally count either.
If there’s one that could almost universally improve the performance of just about any vehicle it’s probably tires. Whether one drives an SUV, a car, or a truck, specialized tires for the type of driving one plans to do can really take said vehicle to the next level. What’s your pick though?
