A version of the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado EV intended for fleets has returned from the EPA with an estimated range of 450 miles (724 km). That 50 miles (80 km) more than Chevrolet said it was aiming for when it first revealed the truck.

The impressive figure for the Silverado EV WT puts it well ahead of any electric trucks on sale today. For instance, the Ford F-150 Lightning tops out at 320 miles (515 km) of range, while Rivian claims that the R1T will be able to go up to 400 miles (644 km). However, Ram promises that its electric pickup will be capable of going up to 500 miles (805 km) per charge, though that figure has not yet been confirmed by the EPA.

Whether or not the Ram eventually beats the Silverado EV, 450 miles is an impressive figure, and one that was achieved thanks to the tenacity of GM’s engineers, said Rory Harvey, president of GM North America, per the Detroit Free Press.

“We look at refinements, we look at aero, we look at the way the vehicle is calibrated, the way the vehicle is set up,” Harvey said. “There are so many factors that go into it. The team was able to refine it.”

The fruits of their labor will be important to the company. Harvey argued that when it comes to work trucks, that added range will give GM “a competitive advantage in terms of those fleet customers.”

Although the price of the 450-mile work truck has not been revealed yet, GM maintained that the Silverado EV will still start with at $41,595 (including shipping), reports Autonews.

Don’t expect the truck to be cheap, though. A work truck variant that will be unveiled shortly after launch will come with 350 miles (563 km) of range and will start at $74,800. Meanwhile, the fully loaded RST First Edition variant of the Silverado EV (with a GM-estimated 400 miles of range), is expected to come with an MSRP of $106,695.

That version of the truck will make 754 (562 kW / 764 PS) and 785 lb-ft (1,063 Nm). Production is expected to start this fall. Upon revealing the longer-than-expected EPA range of the Silverado EV WT, GM said that it was on track to deliver the first examples of the truck to customers this spring.
