In the decade since the Porsche 918 Spyder hit the market, supercars and hypercars have become faster than ever before but this doesn’t mean the 918 is any less appealing than it was 10 years ago. Indeed, after watching this video of a beautiful blue example hitting 214 mph, you may shed a tear that cars like this are slowly but surely being replaced by EVs.

The owner of this particular Porsche 918 Spyder recently headed out to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds to see what it was capable of. Not only does it rocket off the line but it continues to build speed at a rapid pace and sounds absolutely incredible while doing so.

Porsche 918 Spyder Howls During 214 MPH Top Speed Run Proving Its Appeal Amid EV Surge

Driving the 918 Spyder is a screaming naturally-aspirated 4.6-liter V8 supplemented by two electric motors. It produces a combined 875 hp and 944 lb-ft (1,280 Nm) of torque and according to Porsche’s official claims, can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.6 seconds, 124 mph (200 km/h) in 7.2 seconds, 186 mph (300 km/h) in 19.9 seconds and continue through to a 214 mph (345 km/h) top speed.

This 918 Spyder managed to hit the claimed 214 mph top speed without much trouble and as verified by a Racelogic VBOX. With a little extra room, we suspect it could have gone slightly faster.

Comparing the performance of the 918 Spyder to the current leader of the hypercar pack, the all-electric Rimac, shows how far the industry has come in the last 10 years. Indeed, the Nevera recently hit 62 mph in 1.81 seconds, 124 mph in 4.42 seconds, and 186 mph in 9.22 seconds, more than twice as fast as the 918 Spyder.
