The third generation Volkswagen Touareg touched down in Beijing, China last week, for its world premiere.

Shortly after, the brand’s flagship SUV was taken to Romania for an automotive event, and now employees at the Wolfsburg plant were introduced to it.

The people who make all sorts of Volkswagens except for the new Touareg, which is assembled in Bratislava, Slovakia, had the chance to check it out for the first time. And naturally, they were impressed with it, using the word ‘proud’ a couple of times and stating that ‘it’s quite a looker’.

And while most can’t deny that the Arteon’s styling suits the new Volkswagen Touareg like a glove, some have been disappointed by the fact that the automaker’s dual-screen layout isn’t exactly Mercedes-like. However, it does feature a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15-inch infotainment system, so the coolness factor is definitely there for tech-lovers.

As it’s been said numerous times, the 2019 Volkswagen Touareg won’t be launched in North America, where the Atlas will have to take care of everything for the brand in the SUV segment.

Over in Europe, though, it will go on sale this summer, with prices to be announced. Nevertheless, it will likely carry a premium over its predecessor, due to the addition of new technologies and more premium materials.

The engine lineup will debut with the 3.0-liter V6, making 335hp, and a 228hp 3.0-liter V6 diesel. Later on, the car marque will add a 4.0-liter V8 TDI and a PHEV version for China. The plug-in hybrid will arrive in the Asian country next year, but it’s unknown when it will be launched in Europe.
