Our spies caught another prototype version of the C-HR providing us with additional pictures of the exterior and this time, the interior too. (Updated 5/29)
The second generation of the Toyota C-HR is going through the last stages of development before its official debut in Europe at the end of 2023. Our spy photographers caught a new prototype of the new C-HR at the Nurburgring, covered by a thin camouflage wrap that did little to hide its quirky styling.
The production version of the sub-compact SUV appears to closely mirror the Toyota C-HR Prologue concept from 2022. In fact, the silhouette, the surfacing, and the greenhouse with the tiny rear side windows appear to be nearly identical to the concept, with the exception of the more conventional pillars and the smaller-diameter wheels.

The modifications primarily concentrate on the bumpers and lighting units, with slight toning down for production purposes. Additionally, the bumpers now exhibit an increased amount of protective cladding, particularly noticeable at the rear where a smaller diffuser is now present. The front fascia showcases a sizable grille with a honeycomb pattern, incorporating fog lights, although it seems to be fully or partially concealed.
Other otable changes can be observed in the hammerhead-style LED headlights, appearing slightly larger in size. The distinct diagonal element of the full-width taillights, previously extending towards the roof, seems to have been omitted. On the other hand, the production version retains the dual rear spoiler and prominently angled rear glass, along with the inclusion of sleek, flush door handles.
Updated And More Spacious Interior
The new spy shots of the interior reveal that the C-HR will have a central infotainment touchscreen that is separate from the digital instrument cluster, unlike the majority of rival SUVs which house them under the same panel. We can also see the aircraft-style switchgear on the center console and the small automatic gearbox lever on the central tunnel. Toyota claims that the new C-HR will be “more spacious and practical” compared to its predecessor which debuted back in 2016 and got facelifted in 2019.
SH Proshots
At the unveiling of the Toyota C-HR Prologue concept in December 2022, Toyota confirmed that the production version of the C-HR would offer hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options. These powertrain options may be shared with the Toyota Prius, given their compatibility with the TNGA-C architecture, which is shared by both vehicles. This suggests that the C-HR will inherit the efficient and eco-friendly technologies seen in the larger and more streamlined Prius model.
In addition to the hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options, previous sightings of a C-HR prototype have sparked speculation that a fully electric version could also be in the works. This possibility gains strength considering that an electric variant of the previous generation is already offered in the Chinese market. If true, it would further expand the C-HR lineup to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles.
The 2024 Toyota C-HR will be produced in Turkey, just like its predecessor, but the battery packs will be assembled in Europe from imported battery cells. It will be offered in Europe but not in North America where Toyota decided to discontinue the nameplate in favor of the larger Corolla Cross.
