The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS has crossed the Atlantic following its global debut in Geneva earlier this month.
Set to become the latest in a dizzying array of 911 models, the facelifted GT3 RS has a familiar design but it adopts a modestly revised front fascia with updated lighting units. Porsche fanatics will also notice new side skirts and a GT2 RS inspired hood with two vents to improve brake cooling.
The subtle styling changes continue at the rear as the model has a larger spoiler which helps to provide additional downforce. Another new addition is the restyled engine cover which now has an integrated third brake light.
Since the 911 GT3 RS is aimed at enthusiasts, the model has a stripped out cabin with less sound deadening material and no rear seats. Other interior highlights include carbon fiber racing seats, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and lightweight door panels with pull straps.
On the performance front, power is provided by a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces 520 PS (383 kW) and 468 Nm (346 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed PDK transmission which enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 312 km/h (193 mph).
Since weight is the enemy of performance, the 911 GT3 RS has polyurethane bumpers and a magnesium roof. The company also installed lightweight windows, carbon fiber fenders and a carbon fiber hood.
Following its debut in the New York, the 911 GT3 RS will go on sale this fall for $187,500 – excluding a $1,050 delivery, processing and handling fee.
For another $18,000 you can get the Weissach Package
An assortment of options will be available including the $18,000 Weissach Package which saves approximately 13 lbs (5.8 kg) of weight thanks to several carbon fiber components including the roof, sway bars and coupling rods.
Want to spend more? No problem
For an additional $13,000, customers can order magnesium wheels which weigh around 25 lbs (11.3 kg) less than the standard units. When both options are selected, the 911 GT3 RS tips the scales at 3,152 lbs (1,430 kg).
