Many automotive enthusiasts have a dream of at least one forever car in their garage. A combination of drivetrain, chassis, suspension, wheels, and tires that they’ll keep til their dying breath. Today, we’re wondering which one is yours and why.

Forever cars aren’t all that easy to come by. For instance, the vehicles in our lead image are all fun but tough to justify as forever cars. Despite the very best intentions many of us have let go of cars that we truly enjoyed and at one time hoped to keep forever.

Just this week I’ve been informed that my wife’s forever car candidate, a 2013 MINI Cooper Countryman S All4 might end up that way too. While repairable, the cost incurred to fix a bad DME (the car’s brain) and associated parts will cost north of what the little car is probably worth.

I’m not alone though and I know it. Whether we had to depart due to an accident, damage beyond our ability to repair, or something else isn’t the key. The fact is that many forever car candidates fall by the wayside over time.

That doesn’t stop us from hoping or considering what the right forever car truly is though. Is it something that inspires passion and lust every time one gets into it? Or is it something that’s so reliable that it becomes like a part of the family? Perhaps the right answer is a blend of disciplines that allow such a car to fulfill multiple needs without much compromise.

Something like a twin-turbocharged Ford Flex could be a good option. It’s both practical and fast without weighing as much as a small moon. The Dodge Durango Hellcat also seems like a decent all-arounder as it’s ridiculously fast for what it is, capable of hauling lots of people and towing like a truck.

Those are just a couple of possible suggestions though. Unlike some of our questions of the day where there’s an obvious first-place winner, this one is more about your personal taste. So tell us a little about yourself. What’s your forever car and why? Be sure to vote for your favorites below!
