We’ve already heard that the hottest version of the new Mercedes A-Class will pack some serious firepower, but now we get to hear AMG’s boss confirming that the new A45 will come with over 400hp.
Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers spoke with Road and Track at the New York Auto Show about their upcoming hot hatch. He said that the new A45 will be powered by an all-new turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder capable of exceeding the 400hp mark without any electric assistance. This power will be then channeled to all four wheels.
Despite the very impressive horsepower figure, Moers said that the A45 will be focused on offering a complete package. “It’s not all about power output. It’s all about what the car is capable to do on the race track and in everyday driving,” Moers said. “It’s a new dimension, in every perspective.”
Moers went on and confirmed that the A-Class range will include a lesser-powered AMG version, dubbed the A35. The new Mercedes-AMG A35 will basically become the entry-point to AMG’s world, featuring all-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter turbo with “more than 300hp”.
While the hatchback version of the new baby Benz won’t come to the US -only Canada is reportedly getting it- Mercedes will offer its yet-unseen sedan version to these parts of the world. Mercedes is also planning the new generations of the CLA and GLA models based off the 2019 A-Class, which are also set to get their own AMG versions.
