The Suzuki Jimny is getting close to its mid-lifecycle update but it remains a sought-after off-roader in the markets where it is offered. Following the retro-tastic Heritage Limited Edition from Australia, the Jimny got a new Rhino Edition in Malaysia featuring a number of visual treats.

The Rhino-themed special edition is painted in a Pure Pearl White shade featuring red, grey, and black decals on the bonnet and profile. At the back, we find Rhino logos on the spare wheel cover and above the Jimny emblem on the tailgate. Besides the fancy livery, the Jimny got a pair of shiny chrome mirror caps, a retro heritage grille, more prominent aluminum-style skid plates, mudguards, wind deflectors, and protective casing for the differential.

Note that this is not the first “Rhino Edition” of the Suzuki Jimny as a very similar model is already offered in South Africa. As noted by Paultan, the references to the wild animal originate from 1982 when the second-gen Jimny (SJ) was exhibited at the 1982 Birmingham Motor Show with a rhinoceros drawing on the spare wheel cover, inspiring distributors to create a similar logo.

The special edition doesn’t come with any performance upgrades which means that the naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter engine produces the same 101 hp (75 kW / 102 PS) and 96 lb-ft (130 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox with a separate low-range shifter and the usual AllGrip Pro system.

The Suzuki Jimny Rhino Edition is available in a limited number of 30 units exclusively for Malaysian buyers, with a price tag of 174,900 Malaysian Ringgits which equals $37,795. Interestingly, Naza Easter Motors, which is the Suzuki importer in Malaysia, said it will also offer the kit for existing owners of the Jimny at a cost of 15,000 Malaysian Ringgits ($3,242), making it somewhat less of a limited edition.
