Work smarter, not harder is a popular refrain and it’s one the 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty fully embraces as it comes with class-leading technology.
Now that the truck is on dealer lots, Ford is highlighting the tech and revealing the model has an all-new head-up display inspired by fighter jets. While HUDs are nothing new, Ford’s Mark Sich said “We wanted to create an amazing digital experience for our most-focused truck customers, and our research led us to look at aircraft HUD concepts because of their task-oriented hierarchical structures.”
Ford tweaked this idea for use in the pickup and created three intuitive displays that show information related to what you’re doing. If you’re just driving around town, Normal mode shows your current speed, navigation information, and the speed limit.

That’s pretty traditional, but Tow-Haul mode shows a tachometer and trailer brake information. The third and final setting is Off-Road mode and it displays a tach, pitch and roll information, and driveline status.
That being said, the HUD plays second fiddle to the truck’s available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system. It makes connecting trailers virtually fool proof as the system does all the work.
Pro Trailer Hitch Assist uses a camera and radar sensors to locate trailers and align the truck’s hitch with their coupler. This is all done automatically as the system controls the truck’s speed, steering, and braking. This eliminates the need for a spotter as you simply let the truck do its thing and then connect the trailer once everything is aligned.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg as the Super Duty offers a Tailgate Down Camera and Tailgate Down Reverse Sensing System. Buyers will also find onboard scales, which provide real-time payload estimates to help ensure you don’t overload your pickup. The model also sports Trail Turn Assist and Pro Trailer Navigation, which factors in the size of your trailer to give you directions that avoid obstacles such as low bridges and tight turns.
Ford didn’t forget about businesses as there are fleet management tools aided by telematics. The Super Duty also benefits from the Ford Pro Upfit Integration System, which gives aftermarket companies greater access to the truck’s electrical system and software. This allows for ‘digital buttons’ on the infotainment system as well as new safety features. As an example, companies could have an interlock preventing the truck from shifting out of park if something like a bucket is raised.
The 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty starts at $43,970 and is available with an assortment of engines including an all-new 6.8-liter V8 producing 405 hp (302 kW / 411 PS) and 445 lb-ft (603 Nm) of torque.
