A few months have passed since spy photographers caught up with the redesigned BMW X2, but it’s back in the spotlight and wearing less camouflage than ever before.
While the crossover is still wrapped in a swirly disguise, the front end of this M Performance variant is largely uncovered and reveals an M2-inspired grille with horizontal bars. It’s joined by vertical air curtains and a sizeable central intake, which is broken up into two sections. We can also see sweptback headlights that appear to echo those found on the X1.
Moving further back, we can see a sportier design that says crossover coupe rather than luxury hatchback. As part of the change, there’s flush-mounted door handles and streamlined bodywork with soft curves. The crossover also sports stylish two-tone wheels and a sloping roof that flows into an angular rear window.

There isn’t much to see out back, but the X2 M35 / M40 has a sizable spoiler and a four-tailpipe exhaust system that hints at its performance aspirations. Speaking of which, the model is expected to use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces at least 302 hp (225 kW / 306 PS).
Spy photographers didn’t get a look inside, but previous images have shown the cabin will largely carryover from the X1. This means we can expect a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment system as well as a floating center console.
The M Performance variant goes one step further with heavily bolstered sport seats and a sport steering wheel with contrast stitching. We can also expect special upholstery and other minor touches.
The 2024 BMW X2 is expected to be introduced later this year, although the exact timing remains a mystery and we might have to wait a little longer to see the M Performance variant.
