Fisker Coachbuild is an oft-forgotten branch of the Fisker brand and for a short time, it built the car you see here, the Tramonto. It’s based on the Mercedes-Benz SL550 but features a number of unique changes. Now, the fifth of just 15 ever made can be yours but you’ll need to do a little work to bring it back to showroom condition.

As part of its transformation from a stock SL550, the Tramonto received hand-built aluminum and carbon fiber body panels. It also features three-piece 20-inch FT-5 wheels at each corner. Fisker also added tan leather upholstery to the interior.

Under the skin, this thing is all SL550. The engine is the same unmodified 5.5-liter V8 one would find in any other 2007 SL550. As such it’s factory-rated at 382 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque. A seven-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels only. It left the Mercedes factory with a top speed of 155 mph.

Here’s Your Chance To Own A Fisker Tramonto, The Rarest Mercedes You’ve Never Heard Of

Fisker initially planned to make 150 of these cars but ended production after just 15. This is the fifth of that group which makes this a very rare car despite its underpinnings. While that might sound appealing, it might be less so after one sees how much of this car is actually peeling.

The Tramonto badge at the rear of the car, for instance, is literally peeling off of the car. The upholstery is cracking all over the interior. Multiple sources say that Fisker used furniture-grade leather which requires more care than everyday automotive leather. If there was a Fisker badge on the steering wheel at some point it’s long since departed the cabin.

The convertible top appears to work but the cover seems to be coming apart. There are a few scuffs and scratches on the body and there’s a center cap missing from one of the wheels. The seller doesn’t note any mechanical issues though so perhaps the bones are good enough to deserve a restoration.

As of this writing, the Fisker Tramonto has a high bid of $29,000 with just under a day to go in the auction over on BringATrailer.
