Fiat found a rather unconventional way to celebrate the longest day of the year – the summer solstice of June 21st. The carmaker dipped the all-new 600e in a huge bucket of orange paint while its CEO was sitting in the car. The automaker has yet to officially unveil the small electric SUV, despite the fact we have seen it roaming around the streets completely undisguised on at least two different occasions.

The summer solstice stunt took place in a beautiful Italian city in front of a crowd of confused bystanders. A bucket the size of a small building was placed in the middle of a square and filled up with orange paint. Then a silver-painted Fiat 600e arrived at the scene and was loaded on a crane in order to make the dive.

Fiat’s CEO, Olivier Francois was brave enough to stay in the driver’s seat throughout the dipping process. The EV got fully submerged in the paint after the CEO rolled up the windows. Thankfully the color change was kept to the exterior, and Francois didn’t really need the towels handed to him when he exited the 600e.

According to Fiat, June 21st was “the day when the Italian colors of summer can be enjoyed the longest”, which explains the analogy of the paint-dripping stunt. The automaker hinted at “more colorful novelties” for the future, but still hasn’t given us a date for the debut of the Fiat 600e.

Fiat’s new EV is expected to be closely related to other Stellantis B-SUVs including the likes of the Jeep Avenger, Opel Mokka-e, DS3 E-Tense, and Peugeot e-2008. This means it will probably share the same 154 horsepower (115 kW/156 PS) electric motor and 54 kWh battery pack, while an ICE-powered version could also follow albeit in select European markets.
