Erik Buell is the man behind a number of very fast motorcycles and yet it’s his latest venture, the Fuell Fllow, that he’s calling his most innovative. Buell rarely speaks about his work but he’s breaking his silence in an effort to promote the Fllow. Here’s how he sees it deviating from the norm and positioning Fuell for the future.
Electric motorcycles and scooters aren’t a new development. The world has plenty of each. Where Buell’s Fuell Fllow aims to be different is by blending the best of both of those worlds. As he sees it, two-wheeled electric transport is the future of in-city travel.
“When you take into account the growing restrictions in city centers, and you focus on the duty cycles on urban/suburban use, the relevance of new types of urban scooters and urban motorcycles makes a lot more sense,” he says. To that end, he’s created the Fllow as a combination of both scooter and motorcycle. Sure, it looks like a futuristic motorcycle and it goes like a modern superbike but wait, there’s more!

“We are designing the Fllow with a high voltage system, that allows charging in competitive times with filling a gas tank. We are doing it with a smart design that has more onboard storage than most scooters. And of course, we are integrating all the connectivity and safety technology required for an augmented ride, as for all other product classes,” says Buell.
Let’s break those features down just a bit. The Fllow allows for DC fast charging and says that it can go from 10% to 90% in “around 15 minutes.” Is that “competitive” in terms of the time it takes to fill a motorcycle’s tank? Probably not, but bear in mind that we’re talking about charging a battery, so it’s not bad either.
The Fllow’s smart design and storage are sincerely interesting. Not only does it have onboard storage large enough to accommodate a helmet and a bit more, but it keeps the battery pack low and doesn’t need any sort of chain or belt drive for the rear motor. That functional design provides a clean aesthetic.
Finally, modern touches like digital integration with a smartphone allow the user to keep track of vital information on the go. Overall, it’s a very intriguing package for the $12,995 that Fuell is targeting at this point in time. At the moment, it’s available for order at just $9,995 but Fuell hasn’t provided any hard date on when deliveries will take place.
