Xpeng hopes that the all-new G6 will lure Chinese consumers away from the ever-popular Tesla Model Y, announcing pricing details that see it undercut its American rival by 20%.
Prices for the Xpeng G6 will start at 209,900 yuan, the equivalent of $29,000. While it is far from the most affordable EV on sale on China, this does make it significantly cheaper than the Model Y which starts at 263,900 yuan ($36,388). The most expensive G6 variant will start at 276,900 yuan ($38,180).
“Xpeng G6 embodies our unwavering commitment to technology innovation and reaffirms our mission to lead the mobility transformation,” chairman and chief executive of Xpeng, He Xiaopeng noted. “We believe that our forward-looking technology roadmap and vision for making innovative technology accessible to the mass market firmly position Xpeng as an industry trendsetter and leader in customer satisfaction.”

Chinese consumers already appear to be responding well to the car. In fact, some 25,000 orders were placed in the first 72 hours of a local presale. Xpeng needs the electric SUV to be a hit if it has any hopes of competing with the likes of Tesla and BYD.
Xpeng was long considered as perhaps the best Chinese rival to Tesla and for a startup, it has been progressing well. However, sales from the first five months of this year reveal that it delivered 38.9% fewer vehicles than it did in 2022, totaling 32,815 units. This drop in sales contributed to a 45.9% fall in revenue through the first quarter while net losses swelled by 37.6%. South China Morning Post reports that Tesla delivered 219,893 vehicles in China through the first five months of the year. Of these, 152,461 units were the Model Y.
Underpinning the Xpeng G6 is the brand’s latest-generation architecture known as SEPA2.0 and it also makes use of front and rear integrated aluminum die-casting to reduce manufacturing costs. The size of the available battery packs aren’t yet known but Xpeng has confirmed it will be offered with lithium iron phosphate and nickel manganese cobalt batteries. It will be available in 580 Long Range Max & Pro, 755 Super Long Range Max & Pro, and 700 4WD Performance Max variants, with respective ranges of 580 km (360 miles), 755 km (469 miles), and 700 km (435 miles).
