The much-anticipated performance-focused variant of the MG4 EV with the XPower moniker has been officially confirmed for the UK market coming with a dual-motor electric powertrain and a surprising price tag. The zero-emission hot hatch will make its first public outing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13, alongside a racing-style concept and the Cyberster roadster.
The MG4 XPower is the UK-spec version of the Chinese MG Mulan Triumph Edition that was introduced in August 2022. Exterior changes compared to the standard MG4 are limited to the 18-inch alloy wheels shod in Bridgestone Turanza tires, the orange-painted XPower brake calipers, the polished trim accents, and the exclusive Racing Green exterior shade. However, the model gets significant mechanical upgrades under the skin, with MG promising hyper hatch-rivaling performance.

The powertrain combines dual electric motors – 150 kW at the front and 170 kW at the back – for a combined output of up to 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels with the help of the Dynamic Cornering Control System that combines an electronic locking differential with torque vectoring. This is enough to propel the “most powerful production MG ever” from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.8 seconds.
Furthermore, the MG4 XPower comes with a sportier chassis setup including a 25% stiffer suspension (recalibrated spring and dampers plus stiffer anti-roll-bars), sharper steering, a set of 345 mm (13.6 inches) disc brakes, and a stronger setting for the regenerative braking. As a result, the 100-0 km/h (62-0 mph) braking test is completed in 33.9 m (111.2 feet).
The MG4 XPower is already available to order in the UK, at a price of £36,495 ($46,408). Interestingly, this makes it slightly cheaper than the entry-level VW ID.3 Pro despite having more than double the power and genuine hot hatch credentials. It is also significantly cheaper than the ICE-powered VW Golf R which starts from £42,695 ($54,250).
