Sometimes, not wearing a seat belt can lead to bodily injury and harm. Other times, it can lead to a ticket. For one driver, not wearing a seat belt led not only to a number of charges but to a high-speed chase, a PIT maneuver, and the risk of serious physical harm. None of that stopped them from neatly parking their not-get-away car in a painted space before police took them into custody.

This chase went down in the small town of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Known by many locals as a place where crime is rampant, the word that police are actively pulling folks over for seat belt violations could split opinion. Regardless of how citizens view it, such a traffic stop is perfectly legal in the Natural State.

Arkansas State Police trooper Quincy Harris initiated the stop and that’s when the suspect accelerated to 90 mph (145 km/h). It seems as though he might have simply been trying to make it back home though. The chase didn’t last for more than about 90 seconds because after speeding away from Trooper Harris, the driver quickly made his way to an apartment complex.

It’s there that Harris conducted a PIT maneuver, called a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) by Arkansas State Troopers. Interestingly, the action didn’t seem to slow the suspect down much. Instead, he just shook off the police car and then made a very intentional move into a designated parking space in the complex parking lot.

At no point in the police report nor on the police cruiser dash cam do we hear why the driver pulled into the apartment complex or why he chose to then park the car in the way he did. Nevertheless, he’s in jail now and his car ended up getting towed by police. Harris claims that he found some 24 grams of marijuana inside of the car.

The suspect now faces charges of driving on a suspended license, expired tags, no liability insurance, possession of a controlled substance, fleeing, and speeding. Oh, and he’s still on the hook for that no-seat belt violation too.
