Tesla has updated the referral program for both Model 3 and Model Y owners in the United States, Canada, and China.
In the U.S. and as of July 6, existing Model 3 and Model Y owners who refer someone to buy a Tesla can earn up to 10,000 credits. These credits can be used to redeem Full Self-Driving for a period of three months or to redeem other software upgrades, merchandise, or accessories. As for buyers, they will receive CA$650 / $500 off their purchase and also get three months of Full Self-Driving for free.
It is a similar story in China where owners and buyers of Model 3 and Model Ys can receive a 3,500 yuan (~$480) referral award, a 90-day free trial to the Enhanced Autopilot system, and 7,000 referral points. These points can be used to redeem various items through the Tesla store.
In June, Tesla also revamped the referral program for Model S and Model X owners. This program rewards owners with 20,000 credits if someone using their referral link buys a Model S or Model X. Buyers will then receive either a CA$1,300 or $1,000 discount off the purchase price of their new EV while also getting a three-month trial of the Full Self-Driving Beta.

Tesla’s referral program remains much less generous than it was a few years ago. When the program was at its peak, it offered a free next-generation Roadster for those that made 50 or more successful referrals. This incentive was scrapped after 80 Tesla owners became eligible for a free Roadster and given that the Roadster still hasn’t entered production, these 80 owners are still awaiting delivery of their free $250,000 electric supercars.
