BMW Financial Services has officially launched a vehicle subscription service in the United States.
Dubbed “Access by BMW,” the subscription service was introduced earlier today as a part of a pilot program in Nashville, Tennessee. It will provide users with access to a fleet of BMW models which they can switch whenever they want.
When a member of the service wants a different vehicle, they simply use a smartphone app to request another vehicle of their choosing. A BMW concierge will then deliver the vehicle to the user at their desired location. BMW says the vehicles will come “fully fueled and freshly detailed” as well as programmed with the member’s personal preferences.
The subscription service is being launched with two tiers and the base Legend tier costs $2,000 a month. It allows members to drive an assortment of different vehicles including the 4-Series Coupe and Convertible, the 5-Series, the X5 and the M2. Members can also drive plug-in hybrids such as the 530e iPerformance and X5 xDrive40e iPerformance.
Moving up to the M tier costs $3,700 per month but it includes access to high-performance models such as the M4 Convertible, M5, M6, X5 M and X6 M.
Regardless of which tier is selected, both include insurance, vehicle maintenance and roadside assistance. The company also said we can expect additional tiers in the future which will provide “even greater access to a broader range of BMW vehicles.”
In a statement, BMW Group Financial Services USA CEO Ian Smith said “Subscription-based services are of emerging interest for our customers and we’re excited to be offering a mobility service to meet their individual and evolving needs.” He went on to say the pilot program is a great opportunity to gather feedback about the subscription service and noted a “nationwide network of BMW dealers will be integral to the success of Access by BMW.”
