Thought the new Ferrari SF90 XX was an eyeful? Get a load of the company’s latest one-off, the KC23. Built for one of the marques’s ‘most passionate collectors’ over a three-year period, it’s a track-only toy based on the company’s most successful racing car ever, the 488 GT3 Evo.
The KC23 is the work of Ferrari’s Special Projects division and follows a long line of one-offs including the 812-based SP51 and the SP48 Unica, which used an F8 Tributo as its starting point. But while those cars were mainly designed to be drooled over, this one is also designed to to be driven, and hard.
Ferrari says every single line on the 488 GT3 Evo was changed, along with the glass and the light clusters. Highlights include butterfly doors normally only seen on Ferrari’s hypercars, a giant rear wing and motorized air vents in the flanks that fold away when not needed so that the design is as clean as possible when the car is parked up. The wing can also be removed, once the owner has got his hot laps in, and in that configuration your eyes are drawn even more strongly to the rear light bar inspired but the rear end of the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo concept.

The car comes with two sets of wheels, which would make more sense if it was a track-day car that was also road legal. For track use it has four 18-inch rims and slick tires, and for, er, just just looking cool in the garage or when the car is displayed, a second set consists of a pair of 21s up front and a pair of 22s at the back.
Though the exterior looks wildly different to the original Evo’s, the interior stays close to the race car’s cockpit. That means it’s rocking a full cage, a yoke-style steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster and a special center console covered in buttons. The buckets seats are covered in Alcantara though, to add some semblance of luxury, while rear-view duties are handled by three cameras that send images to a trio of monitors suspended from the roof.
There’s no official line on how much power the 3.9-liter turbocharged V8 is producing, but freed from race regulations that pegged the donor car back to around 592 hp (600 PS), it’s surely pushing out at least the same 661 hp (670 PS) as a road-going 488 GTB.
A line in Ferrari’s press material hints that the KC23 provides a “tantalising glimspe of the future of supercars” though doesn’t specify which details we might see on an upcoming Ferrari road car. If you want to see it for yourself and decided which bits you’d like to see make it to production cars that cost around a tenth of the millions of dollars this owner surely paid, the KC23 will be on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 13-16, and at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello between August 1 and October 2.
