Using the windshield wipers on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y has just become a little easier thanks to a software update that now means owners can use the steering wheel controls to adjust them.
Tesla recently introduced a suite of features that could be controlled through the customizable scroll wheels on the steering wheel but they didn’t initially include the windshield wipers. This has changed with the introduction of the new 2023.20 software update that provides drivers the ability to adjust the speed of their windshield wipers directly from the steering wheel. Drivers can also turn the wipers on or off and set them to auto.

The latest update means a dizzying array of things can now be adjusted through the steering wheel controls. These include functions like the HVAC system and fan speeds, dashcam video, display brightness, the steering wheel heater, reversing camera, and other features, Not A Tesla App reports.
Tesla chief executive Elon Musk recently revealed the firm is developing a new and improved auto wiper system that could be introduced in the coming weeks. This system will integrate video from all of the car’s onboard cameras into a single 360-degree view that will allow the vehicle to better analyze the weather conditions and choose when to enable the wipers.
A handful of other updates have been introduced through the latest Tesla software update. For example, drivers with the Full Self-Driving Beta will have their system suspended if it detects five forced Autopilot disengagements. Some of the smaller updates include the ability to change the text size for the infotainment display, an updated navigation search that shows when shops are open or closed, and a function where only the driver’s climate setting will be displayed on the screen if no passenger is detected.
