A crappy situation unfolded on northbound I-95 in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Monday night as State Police responded to reports of a large semi truck spilling an “unknown substance” onto the roadway.
The brown substance coated the interstate and made conditions surprisingly slick. This resulted in multiple accidents including one that involved two Connecticut State Police cruisers.
The driver of the truck continued on his way until he was contacted by his employer, who told him to pull over and wait for police. Once they caught up with him, they discovered the situation was worse than anyone could have imagined as 34 year old Shaky Joseph was driving a 2017 Mack truck hauling a trailer with an “unsecured load leaking human waste.” Accident summaries posted by the Connecticut State Police claim Joseph was “aware of the leak,” but continued driving nonetheless.

As a result of his actions, Joseph was “charged in violation of 12 counts of C.G.S. 53a-63 Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, [C.G.S]14-222 Reckless Driving, and C.G.S. 14-271(b) Operation Of A Motor Vehicle With An Unsecured Load.” He was processed and released after posting a $25,000 (£19,343 / €22,324) cash/surety bond.
Everyone else had a nasty mess to deal with and northbound I-95 was closed for approximately three hours. As for the vehicles involved in the accidents, they include 2014 and 2019 Ford Police Interceptors, a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer, and a 2009 Honda CBR600RR. Likewise, a 2007 Toyota Avalon spun out and collided with a concrete barrier due to “fecal matter” that was “scattered throughout all lanes.”
The list goes on and includes a 2007 Honda Civic, a 2007 Honda CR-V, what sounds like two other Freightliners, and what might be a separate Civic. While no major injuries were reported, you can’t help but think about the poor motorcyclist and their crappy evening.
