Arguably, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is known as the quintessential German luxury saloon. The term “bulletproof” has been thrown around quite frequently when it comes to its overall quality.
Of course, there are versions of the car which are literally bulletproof, but this old, and extremely beige W220, is not one of them. With that in mind, could it possibly hope to handle gun fire better than let’s say, an average car would? It seems that it really depends on what you’re shooting it with.
While very efficient, a 9 mm Glock 19X isn’t exactly the type of weapon that’s going to dismantle a car, especially a really well built one. Based on these attempts by YouTuber Edwin Sarkissian, the Glock could easily puncture through the car, but it was nowhere near as potent as a Desert Eagle, for one.
In fact, a shot fired through the trunk lid (like say you’re being chased by bad guys), will puncture the rear seats, but then won’t necessarily make it past the front seats – so the driver or the passenger could actually not get hurt.
Meanwhile, using a semi-automatic rifle like the AR15 means the bullet will definitely make it past multiple layers of sheet metal, which spells bad news for the occupants of the car. So unless your S-Class really is bulletproof, semi-automatic fire will puncture through-and-through.
