Denmark’s Zenvo, the maker of wiggly-winged TSR, has announced that it will work with Mahle Powertrain to create the engine for the Aurora hypercar, which it will launch on August 18. The all-aluminum and carbon fiber engine will form an integral part of the car’s plug-in hybrid powertrain.
All-in, Zenvo wants the Aurora to offer 1,850 hp (1,380 kW/1,876 PS). The new 6.6-liter, quad-turbocharged V12 engine will be responsible for 1,250 of those horses (932 kW/1,267 PS), and will be able to rev all the way up to 9,800 rpm, it anticipates.
“As an automobile enthusiast and industry professional, I have always strived to achieve the pinnacle of powertrains in the form of a V12 engine,” said Jens Sverdrup, Zenvo’s chairman of the board. “The unmatched emotions and sensations it evokes, are what sets it apart as the ultimate choice for supercars and hypercars.”

A completely new design, the specs and layout of the engine are currently being developed with the help of Mahle Powertrain. Its “Jet Ignition” system will be incorporated into the package to ensure that it is capable of operating without needing to over fuel to protect its internal components.
That means that the engine will satisfy Euro 7 emissions regulations. In concert with the electric motors, and with the help of Mahle Powertrain, Zenvo intends to make a unit that meets all legislative emissions requirements in both Europe and the United States.
Zenvo is looking to future-proof the V12 for more than just the Aurora. The engine is being designed to be modular, with the automaker investigating the possibility of turning it into a V8 and a V6 for other projects. It says it will also consider selling the engine to other OEMs.
“The partnership between Zenvo and MAHLE Powertrain will deliver a truly unique piece of engineering art, one that will use all our past experience to push the boundaries of engine technology into the future,” said John Hollingworth, Mahle Powertrain representative. “Just working with the Zenvo team you can see the passion for the vehicle they are developing, and we want to deliver an engine that compliments that passion and stirs the emotion of everyone who drives the Aurora.”
