Few would deny that the Ferrari 599 GTO is one of the coolest cars produced by Ferrari over the past 15 years or so. However, we’re not sure we can get behind the unique configuration of this particular 599 GTO that is heading to auction next month.
In building the ultimate, hardcore version of the 599 GTB, Ferrari took its learnings from the track-only 599XX and made the 599 GTO. At the time of its introduction, it was just the third Ferrari model with the fabled ‘GTO’ badge after the 250 GTO and 288 GTO. Only 599 examples were built and this example is tipped to sell for between $750,000 and $900,000.

The RM Sotheby’s listing for the car reveals that this is one of just 125 units allocated to the United States and was delivered new to Ferrari of Beverly Hills and has remained in southern California ever since. The original owner configured it in an ‘Extra-Compionario’ (special order) specification where the Bianco white paint is contrasted with a bright red racing livery. Elements finished in red include the pillars and flying buttresses, the front grille surround, parts of the hood, and stripes running along the sides and the rear. The car also features naked carbon fiber rocker panels.
For as overt as the exterior of the car is, the interior is even more striking. The seats, door panels, steering wheel, dashboard, and transmission tunnel are all bathed in bright red leather with white contrast stitching. Meanwhile, the pillars and rear parcel shelf are clad in white leather. The listing notes that this 599 GTO also rocks a fire extinguisher, a Bose audio system. All of the options cost more than $140,000.
While the car is now 12 years old, it has only been driven 263 miles (423 km) so it’s little surprise that it is expected to sell for so much.
